Welcome to the Alex Leondis Panos Website:

Alex Leondis Panos, Massachusetts native, has been passionate about creating black and white fine-art photographs for the last 25 years. From the beginning, Panos has been intrigued by both the simplicity and complexity of working in this medium using exclusively natural light. Perhaps related to his Greek and Asia Minor heritage, Panos is drawn to forms and textures, particularly as they are influenced and changed by light. Capturing an image is only the beginning of the process which continues with his meticulous hand-developing of the negative, followed by artistic focus on how best to transfer the image to a positive print. Panos employs archival methods, using the medium of silver gelatin or platinum-palladium.

In the galleries, you will find images from Panos's multiple sojourns, both here and abroad, including Japan, Greece and Turkey. In his portraits, his ability to capture the essence of his subject is also evident. Panos relates: "In these portraits, my attempt---during the split second it takes to record the image---was to obtain not merely well-focused representations of my subject's external features. I tried more importantly to capture what I knew (or sensed) of the person's spirt (unaided by props, lights or other contrivances). I take what nature gives me."

Panos currently resides in the seaside community of Nahant, Massachusetts and has a gallery at his salon, Alex and Co. located at 12 Front Street, Salem, Massachusetts 01970, U.S.A.
